Scottish actor Ewan McGregor shaves his head to 'stand with people with cancer'

SCOTTISH actor Ewan McGregor has “braved the shave” and cut all his hair off to help raise funds for a cancer charity.

The Trainspotting and Star Wars star’s daughter, Clara McGregor, shared a video of her family helping to shave her father's head to help raise awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Sharing the short video on Instagram, McGregor shared that he's had friends and family who have been affected by cancer.

He added he was braving the shave to “stand with people living with cancer” while helping raise vital funds.

Macmillan Cancer Support offers a wide range of services to help individuals and their families cope with the physical, emotional, practical, and financial impacts of cancer, as well as raise awareness and support people who provide cancer patient care.

Joined by his family, who helped shave McGregor’s head, he joked, “it’s taking me back” in reference to his shaved look in the cult classic Trainspotting.

He said: “Today I am braving the shave for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“To stand with people living with cancer and to raise funds so that no one needs to face it alone.

“Like lots of people, I've had friends and family who have all been affected by cancer, and I've seen how tough it can be raising the shave is a small act, but it can make a big difference in raising awareness and funds so that everyone across the UK gets the support that they need.

“So, here we go. Braving the shave.”

McGregor said that there are 3.5 million people who are affected by cancer in the UK, while he urged others to join in and donate to the Brave The Shave campaign.

According to Macmillan Cancer Support, more than £450,000 has been raised so far this year, with over 4400 people signing up to cut their hair off in support of the campaign.

It added that with the money raised so far, it could help fund eight Macmillan nurses for a year.

The charity added: “Whatever your reason, whoever you do it for – your bold statement will help Macmillan support even more people living with cancer.”
