Scott Wright's Aberdeen contract latest as Derek McInnes looks to reel in homegrown star

Aberdeen have opened talks with Scott Wright over a new deal.

The playmaker is out of contract in the summer but Derek McInnes ' side are hopeful of extending his deal over the coming weeks.

Aberdeen are struggling financially due to Covid-19 but know the importance of keeping Wright, who could leave for nothing on freedom of contract.

The 24-year-old has been one of McInnes’ most creative players this season.

He has played in all but one of their Premiership matches, and hit the net in the 2-0 victory over Hibs just before the international break.

He will be hoping to continue his strong start to the season when the Dons return from the international break to face league leaders Rangers.

Aberdeen, meanwhile, have suffered an injury setback after Niall McGinn picked up a calf strain in Northern Ireland’s Nations League play-off defeat to Slovakia and is expected to be out for three games at least.
