Scott Wright Rangers transfer update as Derek McInnes sends clear message after 'horrible afternoon' for Aberdeen

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes wants Scott Wright 's situation resolved as soon as possible as he opened up on a "horrible afternoon" for his side in Dingwall.

The forward is close to agreeing a pre-contract move to Rangers but could move this month if the two clubs can work out a deal.

The 23-year-old started as Aberdeen were beaten 4-1 by Ross County on Saturday, but his manager admits he would like clarity on Wright's future as soon as possible.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland McInnes said: "As far as I'm concerned, both myself and the chairman have had no other contact from Rangers since the start of the week.

"They've made it clear Scott's a player they want to work with for next season and if they want to work with him for the rest of this season clearly it has to be a good offer.

"But until that's the case then we stay as we are, he's our player.

"It would be good if we can get it resolved but if not we've got to stay as we are.

"I'll keep getting asked the question but there's been no further dialogue other than their initial approach."

McInnes was speaking after watching his side get thrashed 4-1 by bottom side Ross County and the manager pulled no punches in assessing the match.

He admitted: "The opening period of the game clearly wasn't good enough, Ross County kept their front three up against our back three and we never really dealt with that.

"The opening two goals we have to defend far better, we changed to a back four midway through the first half and were instantly better.

"I'm disappointed we feel the need to change, first of all, we've got a system that's been working for us and I wanted us to impose that.

"At both ends of the pitch we weren't good enough at the start of the game then I felt as though after that we created numerous chances.

"We get a goal just before half-time and the team talk at half-time was about trying to pick up where we left off.

"I thought we did that at the start of the second half, we got into some good areas and there's no doubt Jonny Hayes going off was a real blow to us because he was really prominent on the outside of their shape.

"We were guilty again of missing chances. I know their keeper has had a couple of good saves and you've got to look at that side of it but some of the chances we missed at that stage weren't good enough.

"We've made our subs and Ross McCrorie took a sore one, the boy couldn't move in the last 10 minutes and his picking up at the third goal then they get a header in.

"I'm as disappointed with the opening period as I am the last 10 minutes, and we've got two boys leaving on crutches and Ash Taylor pulling up injured.

"So it's been a horrible afternoon for us. Clearly the standard of the team has got to be better in certain situations.

"We'll dust ourselves down and see what we've got available for next week and try and respond."
