Scott Wright expected Rangers transfer 'backlash' as former Aberdeen man explains why switch was a no-brainer

New Rangers signing Scott Wright admits he's faced "a bit of a backlash" from Aberdeen fans but can't wait to get started at Ibrox.

The forward signed a pre-contract with the Premiership leaders in January but continued playing for the Dons.

On transfer deadline day Rangers struck a deal to add him to Steven Gerrard's squad early, and Wright is in contention to play against St Johnstone on Wednesday.

Leaving Aberdeen for Ibrox is never going to be a popular move, as Ryan Jack can testify, but the new boy has no regrets.

Wright confessed: "There was always going to be a bit of a backlash, I kind of expected that but it was a decision I felt I had to make.

"When I spoke to the management and staff at Rangers I was really excited to be coming here and joining such a massive club.

"I feel they are definitely going to be taking me to the next level and I am looking forward to working with all the staff here. I can't wait to get started.

"It is time to focus on Rangers and I am ready to break into the team here.

"It's great to have a friendly face here in Ryan Jack but all the boys and staff have been so welcoming.

"It is a very exciting time to be joining Rangers. I'm looking forward to getting started and training today."
