Scott Wright could join Rangers in this window as Aberdeen open to early deal

Rangers have declared their interest in signing Aberdeen winger Scott Wright.

The Premiership leaders told the Dons after Sunday’s Pittodrie clash they intended to open pre-contract talks with the 23-year-old.

Steven Gerrard’s side, who are also keen on KV Oostende striker Fashion Sakala, will open talks over a move that could take him to Ibrox on a free transfer, come the summer.

But Aberdeen believe a deal could still be struck in this window, which could include a fee or possible player swap.

The Dons are already due Rangers around £350,000 for the signing of Ross McCrorie, which is payable this summer.

Wright had knocked back a new contract and told Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes that he wanted to keep his options.

It is a blow to Aberdeen as Wright has come through their youth ranks.

Wright, who has previously had a loan at Dundee, has been in and out of the team and it has only really been this season he has nailed down a first-team berth.

Ryan Jack made the same move from Aberdeen to Rangers back in 2017.
