Scott Sinclair set for Preston as Celtic outcast travels to England for talks

Scott Sinclair was on the verge of severing ties with Celtic last night after being given permission to open signing talks with Premier League promotion chasers Preston.

Record Sport understands Sinclair was making his way back to the UK from Celtic's winter training camp in Dubai to hold discussions with Deepdale boss Alex Neil as the winger prepares to call time on a trophy-laden three-and-a-half years in Glasgow.

Stoke have also been monitoring the 30-year-old’s situation but Preston made an official approach to Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell.

Sinclair, in the final six months of his megabucks contract, is now surplus to Neil Lennon’s requirements.

A source said: “It looks as if a move at this stage would be in the best interests of all parties.”

The 30-year-old was a key figure under previous manager Brendan Rodgers but has fallen out of favour since his departure.

He's made just seven appearances this season and only one since September, with that coming in dead-rubber Europa League game away at Cluj.

Sinclair has hit 62 goals in 167 games since joining from Aston Villa in the summer of 2016.
