Scott Robertson and the Celtic trip to Belgium that led to him turning down Rangers

Celtic may have lost their final Europa League group game but 18-year-old debutant Scott Robertson received plenty of praise from supporters.

The midfielder was thrown in for his debut away to Cluj and though Neil Lennon 's side lost 2-0 he impressed with his performance.

It was his first professional appearance but Robertson's father reveals he took it all in his stride.

Stuart Robertson told The Athletic : "I get the impression that he’s quite relaxed about it all, quite calm; not like his mum and his sisters, they’re manic today, texting me, ‘have you heard from him? How’s he doing? What’s it like?’.

"I get the feeling as well because he’s been there for so long, it’s not as if he came to the club six weeks ago and is now starting, he’s been there for 10 years, more than half his life, he’s just been moved along, stage to stage."

Robertson has spent 10 years at Celtic but as a child he also turned out for Rangers , before an under-9s trip to Belgium convinced him to stick with the Hoops.

"At that point he had a decision to make and he decided to stay at Celtic .

"If he went away with Rangers at that time he would have said, ‘I’ll stay with these boys’, as you build an affinity with them with that time away, but he’s been at Celtic ever since.”
