Scott Parker insists Brighton vs Newcastle is an 'irrelevance' to Fulham ahead of huge Leeds clash

Scott Parker has branded Newcastle and Brighton an 'irrelevance' in his Fulham side's bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The Cottagers currently occupy 18th place and the third relegation spot and trail Newcastle by two points and Brighton by three points with nine matches remaining.

However, they have a huge opportunity to lift themselves out of the bottom three on Friday evening when they welcome Leeds United to Craven Cottage.

A win over Marcelo Bielsa's side will lift them above Newcastle, and out of the relegation zone, while also piling the pressure on the Seagulls and the Magpies heading into Saturday's huge clash between the two sides at the AMEX Stadium.

Lee Ryder: Something surely has to give for Newcastle United at Brighton

However, Parker insists there is no 'extra pressure' on his side this weekend, despite their two relegation rivals facing off against each other.

"No pressure, the pressure comes from within, from us," Parker told Football.London.

"I've been consistent in my message. It's an irrelevance what they're doing. The main focus for us is Friday night against Leeds to put in a performance what we've put in over the last months now to get to this point, needs to come again.

"The main focus is let's go and get three points on Friday night, let's put in a performance to get three points and if we do that it puts us in a good place on the front foot."

When asked if the fact Fulham play before Newcastle and Brighton will serve as a psychological boost to his side, Parker replied: "The biggest boost will be three points.

"I understand we play before the other two teams around us play each other but the biggest boost that we have is that we need to perform on Friday.

"The main focus is to put in a performance, attempt to win that game and get three points and then we move on to the next. Whatever is to be Saturday is really irrelevant, what is relevant is making sure we do our job."
