Scott Mills’ Treadmill Challenge for BBC Children in Need: What was it, how much was raised, and how to donate

Children in Need’s TV special airs this evening (November 18), showcasing fundraising efforts from people all over the country, including a number of famous faces.

Alex Scott, Jason Manford, Ade Adepitan, Mel Giedroyc, and Chris Ramsay will be hosting this year, featuring short specials from a number of popular BBC programmes, such as the Graham Norton Show, the Repair Shop, and Blankety Blank.

Before tonight even kicks off, however, former radio presenter Scott Mills spent 24 hours raising money for the charity.

Here’s a look at what his challenge was and how much money he raised for BBC’s Children in Need.

What was Scott Mills’ Treadmill Challenge?

Starting on Wednesday, November 16, Scott Mills embarked on a 24-hour treadmill challenge to raise money for BBC Children in Need, broadcast live on Radio 2, BBC iPlayer, and BBC Sounds for the full 24 hours. It is also now available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

To keep up morale, Mills was joined in the BBC Radio Theatre by Sam Ryder (with a special song for him), Tim Vine, Olly Murs, Joe Wicks, Lemar, Greg James, Simon Brodkin, Jamie Laing, Olympic race walker Tom Bosworth, Gaby & Billy from DIY SOS, and Joel Corry.

The radio DJ walked, jogged, and ran for 24 hours, eating on the go. He even had the time and energy to recreate his infamous Strictly Come Dancing ‘crab dance’.

How much money did Scott Mills raise for BBC Children in Need?

An hour after the end of his challenge, Scott had raised £1,000,365 for Children In Need, according to the BBC.

“I’m in shellshock right now,” he told Radio 2’s Zoe Ball as the challenge came to an end. He celebrated completing the challenge with a well-earned slice of pepperoni pizza.

“I didn’t expect it to be this much money because of how things are at the moment,” he said, meaning the cost-of-living crisis. “For that money, I would do it all over again. You are amazing.”
