Scott McTominay set for Scotland recall as John Souttar hopeful ahead of Steve Clarke announcement

Scott McTominay is set for an international recall for Scotland ’s vital World Cup qualifiers.

Steve Clarke will name his initial squad on Tuesday for the upcoming crunch World Cup qualifiers against Israel and Faroe Islands today – and McTominay will feature in it.

The Manchester United star missed the last triple header after groin surgery.

The 24-year-old has since played his way back into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans, facing West Ham and Aston Villa in the last two games.

Scotland entertain Israel at home on October 9th in front of a sell-out Hampden and McTominay is now a key member of the squad.

If Scotland could win that it would go a long way to sealing the runner-up spot in the group behind Denmark.

There is unlikely to be wholesale changes in Clarke’s squad with them signing off the last double header with wins against Moldova and Austria.

Celtic’s Greg Taylor is out for two months after shoulder surgery so that will see at least one change in the squad.

Hearts defender John Souttar is one who is keeping his fingers crossed he will be involved.

He has made an impressive start to the Premiership campaign with Hearts and is very much on Clarke’s radar.

The Scotland boss has a string of glowing reports from his scouting staff about the central defender over the last few months.

The 24-year-old has impressed and Hearts were keen for Souttar not to be called up too early to make sure he is over his recent injury hell.

Souttar has just three caps and the last of those came against Israel back in 2018.

Another player that Clarke has also added to his scouting targets is Sunderland striker Ross Stewart.

The former Ross County star is ripping it up in League One with five goals and an assist in eight games.

Aaron Hickey has impressed in Serie A with Bologna and if another left-back is called up he will be hoping to get the nod.
