Scott McTominay reveals the advice Michael Carrick has given Manchester United players ahead of Barcelona

Michael Carrick has urged the Manchester United players to learn from the Paris Saint-Germain win to push them to victory against Barcelona.

United host La Liga giants on Wednesday evening in the Champions League quarter final first leg and go into the tie as underdogs with Ernesto Valverde's side joint favourites to win the title.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side pulled off a remarkable comeback in Paris in the last round and Carrick has been trying to instill belief into the players that they can do it again.

“The PSG experience was invaluable," Scott McTominay told ManUtd.com. "Michael Carrick is constantly saying the same messages to us about making sure that whenever you are on the pitch you learn and then you reflect on games afterwards.

"That’s what we all try to do, even when we win, we’ll still look at what we did that made us a better team, we’ll look at why started well in a game or why we didn’t start so well.

"It’s important to take on board every single bit of information the coaches say – they all bring different things to the table and it’s so important we listen carefully and also learn from every experience on the pitch."

McTominay impressed in United's last game against Wolves and featured in that comeback win against PSG and the academy graduate is relishing the prospect of another big European night at Old Trafford.

And with Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic both doubts the Scotland international is in with a good chance of starting.

"It’s the quarter-final of the Champions League and the majority of the boys have played games at this stage," McTominay added. We’re all professionals and we’re all relishing the opportunity to go and show that we’re a force to be stopped as well."
