Scott McTominay provides injury update for Manchester United fans

Scott McTominay has headed to Instagram to provide an update for United fans following reports he will be out of the weekend's fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

McTominay missed last weekend's 1-1 draw with Southampton, with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferring the services of Nemanja Matic to partner Fred in the centre of the midfield. Fans have argued that Solskjaer made the wrong decision, as Matic did not have his best game in United colours, lacking the energy and impetus that the Scotsman provides.

However, it appears that Solskjaer's mind might have been clouded with the recent news that McTominay has been nursing an injury for the past few months.

The midfielder took to social media to make the United faithful aware of a minor surgery that will keep him out of action for several weeks.

"Just to let you all know I’ve had minor surgery on an issue which has needed managing for the last couple of months," the Scotsman began.

"I hate missing games so to be missing Wolves on the weekend & the international break is so disappointing but that’s part & parcel of the game.

"Wishing all the boys the best of luck & I will be back sooner than you think."

United had already been heavily linked with cover in central midfield, and this seems like the perfect reasoning for United to snap up a player to fulfil the void in the middle of the park.

Declan Rice and Eduardo Camavinga have been names United have been most strongly connected to throughout the window, but it seems unlikely at this stage that any of those deals will come into fruition this summer.

Rice is expected to cost over £100million if there was to be a transfer this summer, and reports suggest that he will become a more available target next summer as his contract winds down. It is a similar story for Camavinga, who is out of contract next summer and eager to move but reportedly would prefer a move to Spain.
