Scott McTominay praises crucial Manchester United change under Solskjaer

Scott McTominay believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's faith in youth policy gives every Manchester United player a fair chance in the new season.

United's young squad got off to the perfect start in the Premier League last weekend as they eased past Chelsea with an impressive 4-0 win at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer named a starting line up with an average age of 24 years and 227 days for the match - the youngest average of any of the 20 teams which played on the opening weekend.

Young duo Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were both signed in the summer, while the likes of Mason Greenwood and Tahith Chong have both been given a chance in the first-team under Solskjaer.

McTominay is delighted to see youth given a fair chance at United and he believes the dressing room is healthier as a result.

"Experience is important, but young players are hungry," McTominay told Football Focus.

"Because somebody's played more doesn't mean they'll get ahead of you.

"There's no first name on the team-sheet and there's no given they'll play in every match - that's the sign of a healthy dressing room.

"Age is just a number. When you see [Paris St-Germain's] Kylian Mbappe and [United team-mate] Marcus Rashford play at such a young age, doing amazing things it's a credit to them. They just play."
