Scott McTominay posts Manchester United injury message

Scott McTominay said he hopes to be back playing for Manchester United 'as soon as possible' after suffering a knee injury in the win against Newcastle on Boxing Day.

The midfielder was replaced by Paul Pogba at half time of the 4-1 win at Old Trafford on Thursday and missed the win at Turf Moor 48-hours later as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed he would be out for a number of weeks.

"I wouldn't expect him to be back within a few weeks," Solskjaer said after the win against Burnley.  "I don't think we'll see him, it'll be more than that. But he's always proved before if you give him three weeks he's back in two.

"But I don't know if it's three or four weeks. It might be something like this. We just gotta find a way through it."

A report in the Daily Mail suggested the Scotland international could be sidelined for as long as two months but despite the bad news McTominay posted a positive update on his Instagram page.

"A set back is a chance to come back stronger than ever, doing my best to be back on the pitch as soon as possible," the 23-year-old wrote. "Positive mind & keep the hard work going, thank you to everyone for the good wishes."

McTominay has been a regular starter for Solskjaer this season having only missed three Premier League games through injury as he has stepped up in Pogba's absence.

The France international returned in the defeat to Watford but missed the trip to Burnley as the midfielder didn't feel right.
