Scott McTominay on how Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick compares to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

First impressions of Ralf Rangnick from Manchester United’s players are “amazing” as Scott McTominay has had his say on how the new interim boss stacks up to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Rangnick’s reign has begun at Old Trafford after the German arrived on an interim basis as Solskjaer’s replacement, following the Norwegian’s sacking.

The early signs have been promising, with United winning their first game under their new boss after beating Crystal Palace 1-0, before a much younger side were held to a 1-1 draw by Young Boys in the Champions League.

Much has been made of the difference Rangnick will bring as manager, with the former RB Leipzig boss having been famed for his high-pressing style with his sides back in Germany.

It’s hoped the 63-year-old’s experience can help United reach the sort of levels that had looked to be on the cards after a summer spent adding some big names to the squad, including the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

It was a task that proved to be beyond Solskjaer, and the early indications from McTominay – who proved to be a favourite for the former manager – are that Rangnick’s arrival is having an effect.

"First impression is amazing. Very firm, very driven, knows what he wants and in meetings he's very, very clear," McTominay told Sky Sports.

"That's the way it is in football - to get your point across you have to be clear and forceful, and if players aren't doing what you're asking then he's not shy to tell them.

"So first impressions are very, very good. We've had a good result again Crystal Palace and now hopefully we can move forward from that.

“For all the players, everybody spoke to Ole and we wish him well. That’s it, football moves on and there’s nothing you can do about it.

“Obviously with Ralf now, times change, football changes quickly, and you’ve just got to get on with your job and keep doing what you do.

“We’ve not seen enough of Ralf as players. First impressions are amazing, but we can’t give a proper opinion because it’s barely been a week.

“For us, we’re just listening and we’re learning, we’re wanting to do well for his ideas and what he wants, and ultimately win games because that’s what him and his coaching staff have come to do – help us win games and keep progressing.”
