It's one of Steve Clarke's biggest decisions leading into Euro 2020.
Manchester United's Scott McTominay is a key player at the Premier League runners-up yet is currently shoehorned into a back three rather than being given the freedom of the Scotland midfield when in dark blue.
Clarke has made no secret of his desire to eventually move the 24-year-old into his own engine room when he's settled on a proper back-line.
But after the Europa League Final against Villarreal for his club side there is hardly any merit left to leaving him shackled at centre-back.
At least, that's according to both Scotland and United diehards who watched, mouth agape, as the all-action number 39 pulled off Zidane turns, superb passes, crunching tackles and generally just looked like the best player on the park in a European final.
He didn't know much about his assist for Edinson Cavani's equaliser in 90 minutes, which followed a Gerard Moreno first-half opener, as the ball ricocheted off him in a crowded Villarreal box.
But he meant every one of the five successful take-ons and three successful tackles in 90 minutes before preparing to give it his all in a further 30 - though was substituted moments before a mammoth penalty shoot-out that saw David De Gea miss the vital 22nd spot-kick.
The reaction spread to some of the most notable figures in the game with Gary Lineker tweeting: "Scott McTominay has been absolutely superb."
Scotland fans followed that up by insisting it's time for the move into midfield.
@Ste_1888 said: "Scott McTominay has to play in midfield for Scotland at the Euros. Immense tonight."
@cammyd_1972 added: "Scott Mctominay has to start centre mid with Scotland. It’s a must"
And Red Devils fanatics weren't far behind with their praise - @King_Wave_ adding: "Scott McTominay is putting in a shift today. Best player on the field for United."
@jon_s1989 summed it all up: "Am I crazy for thinking that Scott McTominay is way more important to this United side than Pogba?"
No, you're not crazy. Welcome aboard.
