Scott McTominay gives Manchester United injury update after substitution

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is confident he will be fit for the Premier League visit of Brighton on Sunday.

McTominay came off in the 75th minute of United's 3-0 Europa League group win over Partizan Belgrade at Old Trafford but told reporters in the mixed zone he 'should be fine' for the weekend fixture.

The 22-year-old has started all 11 of United's Premier League matches so far but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was not as optimistic at his post-match press conference. "I don't know. It didn't look too good.

"He said he was gonna be okay out on the pitch. He said, 'I'll be fine, I'll be fine' because he's tough. But he had to come off. I hope he'll recover on Sunday, I'm not sure. It was the inside of his ankle, I think he went over his ankle."

Midfielders Paul Pogba (ankle) and Nemanja Matic are already out for the Brighton game and James Garner, 18, is the only other specialist midfielder aside from Fred available to Solskjaer.

Andreas Pereira is another option and started last season in the holding role under Jose Mourinho, but has played as either a right winger or a playmaker under Solskjaer this season.

United have qualified for the Europa League round-of-32 with two group games to spare and travel to Kazakhstan later this month to face Astana. They may need to beat Astana and AZ Alkmaar in their final group match to win Group L but have nine matches in December after they went through to the quarter-finals of the League Cup.

Solskjaer plans on resting some players for the Astana trek. "We want to get through as quick as we can and that long trip to Kazakhstan is not one you want to travel so we have to win.

"It might be a possibility to rest a few for that trip now and be ready for a tough week after that game. We've got Villa, Spurs and City in a week, so that was important."
