Scott McTominay gives Manchester United boost with fitness update

Manchester United have been boosted by the return of Scott McTominay to training as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer convened his squad at the Marbella football centre.

United have chosen the sports complex in southern Spain as their base for a warm weather training camp during the Premier League's February winter break.

McTominay and Axel Tuanzebe were pictured training by photographers, though they appeared to remain separate from the rest of the squad as United manage their injury recoveries. The Scottish midfielder is still recuperating from knee ligament damage, which has kept him sidelined since United's Boxing Day victory over Newcastle United.

McTominay is unlikely to be back in time for United's next Premier League game, against Chelsea on February 17th but he is understood to be making good progress with his recovery.

Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Lee Grant and Odion Ighalo have not travelled to Marbella, but McTominay and Tuanzebe — who have both been absent since December — worked as a pair, separate from the main training group in Spain. They initially worked in the gym, under the gaze of United's fitness coaches, before moving onto the grass for some running drills.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah also trained, but alone, as he continues his rehabilitation from an ACL injury.

New signing Bruno Fernandes was a part of the session, as was young goalkeeper Nathan Bishop who joined United from Southend in the January transfer window.
