Scott McTominay given brilliant Manchester United nickname after crunching tackle

Scotland's footballers might not have much to shout about on the international stage - but in terms of nicknames they must be right up there with the best.

From Sparky ( Leigh Griffiths ), Meatball (John McGinn) and Calmac (Callum McGregor) in the current squad to Braveheart (Colin Hendry) and Allan McGregor's, err, Greegs from years gone by then there's always been a cracking story behind the minoker.

Now Scott McTominay has joined the list after he was landed with a new tag by Manchester United team mate Andreas Pereira.

The Scotland international has announced himself on the European stage with eye-catching performances against Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona in last season’s Champions League and he has carried that form into the new campaign.

The midfielder put in another colossal performance in United's 1-0 win over Leicester on Saturday.

In particular, he was praised for a thunderous tackle on Ben Chilwell, with fans celebrating the challenge like a goal and the official club account sharing a video of it on Instagram.

Now it has led to Pereira dubbing him "The McTerminator."

Scotland boss Steve Clarke won't have failed to have noticed McTominay's performances, especially after making an appeal for a leader among his group to step up and replace Scott Brown.

McTominay started both the Euro 2020 qualifying defeats against Russia and Belgium earlier this month and looks set to be a mainstay of Clarke's side.
