Scott McTominay gesture, Sir Alex Ferguson reaction and other moments missed in Manchester United win

Manchester United got back to winning ways in the Premier League on Thursday night.

United drew 1-1 with Newcastle earlier in the week following a lacklustre performance and questions were asked over mentality in the Reds' dressing room, however, such accusations were quickly forgotten against Burnley when United started in perfect fashion.

Scott McTominy found the back of the net from just outside the box on the eight-minute mark and United didn't need long to score a second. Jadon Sancho doubled the lead 20 minutes later, albeit the effort would be marked down as Bee Mee's own goal, and United then scored a third through Cristiano Ronaldo, who gratefully slotted home into an empty net after McTominay went close again.

Aaron Lennon rolled back the years when getting one back for Burnley before half-time but the damage was already done. The second half was uneventful as United just made sure of the result, which ensured they ended the year with three points.

Here are the moments you might have missed from the game...

Scott McTominay's gesture

McTominay delivered an outstanding performance against Burnley and he was equally as classy after the final whistle.

The midfielder spotted a young fan that had made a sign asking for his shirt after the game and he duly obliged.

It made the boy's night - it was a wonderful late Christmas present - and he looked ecstatic after receiving the shirt. McTominay also gave away his shirt after November's draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and he deserves credit for his kind gestures.

Perhaps some of his teammates need to take a leaf out of his book on how to act away from the pitch.

Ralf Rangnick's reaction

Mason Greenwood was unfortunate to start against Norwich and to be hauled off away at Newcastle at half-time. Greenwood started against Burnley and had the opportunity to prove that it was the wrong decision for Rangnick to have brought him in that game.

While Greenwood performed better, he actually did something that provoked an animated reaction from a frustrated Rangnick. With United attacking in the second half, Greenwood passed the ball backwards and Rangnick responded by turning around in disgust.

That was a clear statement of what the German thinks of such passes.

Sir Alex Ferguson's smile

While it's Sir Alex Ferguson's birthday today, United gave him an early gift of three points at Old Trafford.

After McTominay's opener, Ferguson was spotted on TV looking absolutely chuffed at the goal. McTominay represents Scotland at the international level and he shares an allegiance to United and his nation with the former legendary boss.

There was a muted celebration from Rangnick, though.

United score early

McTominay scored on the eight-minute mark and that was significant.

That's because it was the first time that United had scored in the opening 15 minutes of a Premier League game all season - they were actually the last team in the division to do so.
