Scott McTominay aims dig at Man City fans after Manchester United goal

Scott McTominay admitted with a smile that it was extra sweet to bag a late goal for Manchester United against their rivals Man City.

The United midfielder came on as a substitute in the Manchester derby and scored from around 40 yards to seal a famous 2-0 win for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side at Old Trafford. That was after Anthony Martial's strike secured an early lead for the hosts.

The victory boosts United's hopes of finishing in the top four and qualifying for next season's Champions League.

And McTominay basked in the glory of his first derby goal — admitting he will have a joke at the expense of his City-supporting mates. He was also quick to note that it was United's third victory over Pep Guardiola's side in the same season.

"That was such a sweet moment, especially in the game where we could have done with another goal earlier on to finish the game," he told Sky Sports after the game.

"But credit to the boys, they were top drawer today. We had a sticky first 20 minutes but you can see how much it means to the boys winning the derby — that's three times this year.

"Beautiful. I know one or two City fans so it'll be nice to rub that one in their face.

"I've been injured for two months and I was desperate to get back and help the team because I could see the progression in the team."

On his strike, which sent the Old Trafford crowd into raptures as it tied up the victory, McTominay revealed it was an instinctive effort to catch Ederson off guard.

"I read the goalkeeper," he added. He sort of gave me half a chance because they were rushing and I got there before Mendy.

"Obviously it's such a beautiful feeling in front of our fans in the dying minutes."
