Scott McTominay a surprise PES 2020 cover star as Manchester United midfielder joins Lionel Messi

Scott McTominay has made a surprise appearance alongside Lionel Messi on the cover of PES 2020.

The long running football video game is set for release on September 10 but fans have been teased with a first-look at this year's cover stars.

Manchester United and Scotland midfielder McTominay features with Messi, Serge Gnabry and Miralem Pjanic.

The 22-year-old has replaced Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suarez on the newest edition of the game.

His stock has risen considerably since the turn of the year, turning in impressive Champions League performances against the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

United have struck a deal with developers Konami to recreate their squad using a full body scanner plus a hugely detailed version of Old Trafford.

The PES 2020 demo was released earlier on Tuesday and will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The game has exclusive rights to the Scottish Premiership, with all 12 clubs fully licensed and playable.

Last year, the 3D scanners were used to recreate Celtic and Rangers' squads in detail.

Ibrox and Celtic Park were also added to the game later in the season, although there's no been no confirmation as yet over whether they'll be included again this time around.
