Scott McKenna lifts the lid on teammates Scotland qualifying wind-up as defender reveals England upset motivator

Scott McKenna is planning a dressing-room revenge mission after a mystery Nottingham Forest prankster erected a poster warning Scotland they face a Euro 2020 ‘spanking’ from England.

The Dark Blues defender was confronted by the message on his return to the City Ground last November after a glorious penalty shoot-out win over Serbia booked qualification for this summer’s finals.

And as the clock ticks down on a meeting with the Auld Enemy at Wembley on June 18, McKenna revealed he’s refused to remove the offending words so he can ram them down the throat of the guilty party on his return after doing a job on Gareth Southgate’s side.

He said: "When I got back after we beat Serbia there was a big poster on my locker saying, ‘Congratulations on booking a place at the Euros and a spanking by England!’

“I’ve not found out who did it yet. It’s actually still there. I kept it there. Hopefully I can rip it down after we beat them.

“One win might be enough but we have to aspire to get more than that one win and make sure we get to the next stage. We’re not here to make up the numbers, we have to try to get past that 100 per cent, it has got to be

“There are quite a few English lads in the dressing-room, they wished me all the best just not for the 18th! They are all dead excited for me, to be honest. Hopefully I go and do well.”

Steve Clarke ’s squad have already gathered for a training camp in Spain and McKenna also insists handing out a lesson to the English would reward the Scotland fans who head to London after being locked out of qualification games due to Covid restrictions.

He added: “It is nice for them to have that wee bit of excitement as well and payback for sticking by us when they’ve had to stay away from Hampden.”
