Scott McDonald in cutting SPFL jibe as ex-Celtic star delivers Coronation Street one-liner

Former Celtic star Scott McDonald insists the drama involved in Scottish football would be too unbelievable for even Coronation Street or Eastenders.

The latest round of statements and counter arguments has been over the handling of the SPFL's vote on ending the season early which could see clubs relegated without all fixtures being played.

Partick Thistle and Hearts are particularly angry about that while Rangers have been battling the governing body over their handling of their proposed resolution and called for Neil Doncaster and Rod McKenzie to be suspended.

That's before the developing Dundee situation where they say they changed their vote based on the release of figures revealed by the SPFL on how the other clubs voted, and soon realised they had the balance of power.

Dundee are yet to decide how they vote and from afar, McDonald admits he can't help but laugh at how the whole thing is being handled.

He told PLZ Soccer: “I’ve had a little joke about it and I can because I’m so far away.

“Scottish football at times is the gift that keeps on giving, isn’t it?

“There is more drama than Coronation Street or Eastenders put together half the time.

“You could have a yes vote but you couldn’t change your mind on that but if you had a no vote, you could, which is interesting in itself."

The striker is best known for his time at Celtic but has also had spells in Scotland with Motherwell, Dundee United and Partick Thistle.

And he reckons league reconstruction would be the perfect way to get around the current situation.

He added: "I certainly think it’s a very valid option (league reconstruction), it’s something that’s been talked about over the last few years and I’m an advocate of it, I think it would be great for Scottish football.

“I do think it’s gone a bit stale and change is needed within the league.”
