Scott Malone targeting the Conor McGregor blueprint as he eyes Cage Warriors title glory

Dundee MMA fighter Scott ‘Boom Boom’ Malone is looking to emulate the likes of UFC icon Conor McGregor , Stevie Ray and Ross Houston on Saturday night by becoming Cage Warriors world champion.

Malone (6-1) is set to face the newly-crowned undefeated Welsh star Jack ‘Tank’ Shore (10-0) for the bantamweight world championship a Cardiff’s Viola Arena on Saturday 27April.

Malone has made his Cage Warriors debut just a year ago, going on to rack up three consecutive victories in a row and it was these dominant performances that have led the Cage Warriors top brass to give the former Commonwealth Judo champion a crack at the title.

The MMA star said: “I am thrilled to be given the title shot. I knew a win over Josh [Reed] would put me right in the mix, so it is great that I am being given the opportunity to become a world champion”.

Shore is widely regarded as one of the UK’s top MMA prospects and has a massive following in his native Wales, but Malone is not phased at all at the prospect of walking into the Lion’s Den.

He said: “Most of my fights have been in the other guy’s home town, so fighting Jack in Wales won’t bother me at all, it just gives me extra motivation to go in there and spoil the party.

“But this will be a big test for me as Jack is a very good fighter. I actually think he should have gone to the UFC a while ago, but that’s why I wanted to fight him; I want to get the recognition of beating a guy of Jack’s calibre because that will do wonders for my career.

“I won’t really be going in there with a specific game plan but I have been working on a few things as I see a couple of holes in his game.

“I think that he lacks power, explosiveness and aggression and I feel that’s where I will have the upper hand on him.  He is known to be a grappler but he hasn’t fought someone of my level before. The pressure is all on Jack, he’s the champ and will be defending his title for the first time in front of his home crowd.

“I think there is a seed of doubt in his mind for this fight. At some point his ‘0’ has got to go and it will be on Saturday night”.
