CHICAGO _ Joel Quenneville's 1,607th career game as a head coach Thursday moved him into a tie for second place all time. It also was something of a reunion of his 2015 Stanley Cup champions.
Sebastian Aho scored off a deflection of former Blackhawk Teuvo Teravainen's shot early in the third period for the go-ahead goal in the Hurricanes' 3-2 victory.
"Teuvo has gone to ... a higher level," Quenneville said before the game. "He has the puck more, his line has been dangerous offensively. ... He's a threat to do a lot of things when he has (the puck)."
Early during the first period, a video tribute to former Hawks Scott Darling and Trevor van Riemsdyk played on the big screens above the ice at the United Center as Darling stood awkwardly near the net, fresh off allowing Tomas Jurco's deflection of Brent Seabrook's shot to get by him.
After the Hurricanes tied the score 1-1 on Jacoob Slavin's goal, Patrick Sharp celebrated from his back after backhanding the puck past Darling, who also was on his back, with 4 minutes, 54 seconds left in the first for a 2-1 lead.
Justin Williams scored the Hurricane's second goal early in the second period.
