Scott Dann has emotional message for Crystal Palace fans as his Eagles exit is confirmed

Scott Dann has hailed the "incredible" Crystal Palace fans as he sent a heartfelt message following his exit from the club.

Palace have today confirmed that the former Eagles captain has left the club after seven years in south London, having signed from Blackburn Rovers in January 2014.

Dann was a key player for Palace in subsequent years, being named player of the season in 2014/15 and players' player of the season the following year.

In total, he has played 181 times for the Eagles, scoring 17 goals, helping Palace to a first top-half finish in the top flight since 1992 and to their first FA Cup final in 26 years as the club finished runners-up to Manchester United at Wembley under Alan Pardew in 2016.

But now, Dann is leaving the club, following the expiration of his contract, with the 34-year-old becoming the latest player to leave Palace this summer, following on from several other first team players, including Andros Townsend, Patrick van Aanholt, Mamadou Sakho and James McCarthy.

In a farewell message posted on the club website, Dann said: “I want to put on record my thanks to the managers, teammates, and backroom staff I’ve worked with during these enjoyable seven years at the club. I feel like I’ve gone through everything you can as a footballer in this time, and I am proud to have served and captained Crystal Palace.

“I also want to take this opportunity to thank the Palace fans who’ve been incredible from the moment I joined. This has been a chapter of my career that I’ll never forget, and I wish the team and the club all the best for the coming season and beyond.”

Meanwhile, chairman Steve Parish has heaped praise on the former Blackburn Rovers defender and his commitment to the club during his seven years with the Eagles.

“Scott [Dann] has been a magnificent player and club servant since 2014, and I’d like to personally thank him for his immense contribution and his professionalism over the years," he said.

“Scott was a great leader on the pitch and served the club as captain during his time with us. He leaves with the utmost respect of everyone at the club – and we wish him well for the future.”
