Scott Cam Rumoured To Be Bowing Out As The Host Of The Block Ahead Of 2026 Season

We’re still reeling from the season finale of The Block and already there’s rumours about the upcoming instalment, namely that — and I hope it isn’t true — Scott Cam has called it quits as the show’s host.

ICYMI, season 21 of the renovation series wrapped up with the nail-biting auction day episode on Sunday night, spawning countless reactions as two of the five houses were passed in while the remaining teams pocketed in excess of $100,000.

In the resulting fanfare, Triple M breakfast hosts Beau Ryan, Aaron Woods and Cat Lynch took to the airwaves this morning to dish on all things The Block, with one anonymous caller claiming that Cam will depart the show ahead of the next season.

“One of my mates was a tradie on The Block this season, and the rumour going around within the production crew is that this was Scott Cam’s last season,” the anonymous caller claimed.

If true, it would mark the end of Cam’s 15-season stint at the face of the show, after he took the reins from season one and two host Jamie Durie back in 2004.

Cam’s potential departure after 15 years of yelling “tools down!” drew surprise from the Triple M hosts. “It’s a disgrace. I won’t watch The Block if Scotty Cam and Shelley [Craft] aren’t on it … what’s the identity of the show? Scotty Cam,” Woods said.

“Will it affect how many people watch the show?” Ryan added.

The trio also speculated whether Cam’s supposed exit would be a personal decision or one handed down by Channel 9, with Ryan guessing that — given his rumoured $2 million salary — it’s unlikely “Scott Cam would pull the pin” because “he’s on a fortune”.

While his supposed departure is not yet confirmed, Cam did mention a Cam-less future of The Block when addressing rumours of a potential celebrity edition of the show last week, saying a celeb-filled cast wouldn’t happen “on my watch” but could be on the horizon for “the next bloke” who’ll be on hosting duties.

Whether that was an innocent comment or a soft-launch of his exit remains to be seen, but the rumour mill didn’t stop there.

Offering his own tidbit, Ryan suggested that the voiceovers Cam does as part of the show — giving him a God-like quality as he narrates the progress of the contestants — might be AI-generated.

“They reckon [Cam] went in [the audio booth] and did a couple of days of just voice, or might have been one day, and he just read different scripts,” Ryan claimed. “Now for the series, including this year’s series, they put bits in AI and just put in what they want to say. He doesn’t actually do it.”

“I’d love to ask him about it,” Ryan added.

Neither of those rumours are confirmed at this stage, and given the blockbuster finale we just witnessed, we should all be given a little grace time to process before we dig into speculation about season 22.

Then again, this is Aussie reality TV we’re talking about, so that grace period might last all of two seconds. So let the guessing game about who’ll recreate Cam’s famous “tools down!” catchphrase begin!
