Scott Brown to be 'offered' Celtic deal to fend off Aberdeen interest for player-coach role

Celtic are preparing to offer Scott Brown a new deal to fend off interest from Aberdeen, according to a report.

The Parkhead skipper has been approached by Stephen Glass over a potential player-coach role if he lands the Pittodrie job.

But the Hoops are keen to keep a hold of the experienced midfielder as the Daily Record claim the club are set to hold talks with him over an extension with fresh terms set to be put on the table.

Brown wants to continue playing, but only if he can remain an important part of the new Celtic set-up. However, he won't find that out until the Parkhead side appoint a new manager as they look for Neil Lennon's successor.

Former Newcastle star Glass is in the running for the vacant Dons job after Derek McInnes parted ways after eight years in Granite City.

And he's already preparing his pitch to the Aberdeen board by recruiting Brown who is keen to get into coaching once he hangs up his boots.

The pair played together at Hibs, but Chris Sutton insists Celtic need to retain his services next season.

He said: “Brown’s knowledge and know-how off the park, his motivation skills, his leading by example in training and his ability to still perform at high standard would make him a coup for any club.

“He can’t be allowed to leave Celtic. Not now. Not at a time when they are going to need someone with his experience of the place and his ability to unite.

“Brown is a leader of men and, no matter what is on offer at Pittodrie, Celtic need to make sure what they offer means there is not a chance he’ll even think about moving to the North East.”
