Scott Brown shakes off Celtic nickname as he wins over Aberdeen support to earn Pittodrie rebrand

Impressive Scott Brown has already shown what he is capable of this season for Aberdeen.

The veteran midfielder departed Celtic for Pittodrie at the end of last season and has settled quickly into his new surroundings.

The Dons support may still be adjusting to life with the Celtic legend in midfield, and the rest of us to seeing him play in red, but he dominated the middle of the park in their Europa League Conference opener.

The qualifier against BK Hacken got off to the perfect start with Andy Considine scoring first and a Lewis Ferguson penalty making it 2-0 by half-time.

Ferguson added another from distance in the second half while Christian Ramirez and Connor McLennan scored another two for a rampant 5-1 win.

And new skipper Brown shone during his Granite City debut in early positives for Stephen Glass this season.

He has quickly won over supporters, who had become accustomed to seeing the 36-year-old celebrating while they commiserate at Hampden finals.

The 'Broony' moniker has also been given an Aberdeen rebrand with fans now affectionately dubbing him 'Brooner'.

Fans took to social media to emphasise the new nickname, with one stating: "It’s Brooner now nae Broony."

Another lauded his performance: "Brooner setting the standard."

After Brown showed his quality in the European qualifier first leg, another punter welcomed him with open arms to the club: "Welcome to Aberdeen Brooner. You'll love it up here."

Another onlooker noted: "The Aberdeen fans already seem to have fallen in love with Brooner."
