Scott Brown’s final Celtic derby in numbers as legendary captain bows out in disappointment

When Celtic fans remember Scott Brown it won't be for his final clash with Rangers.

They'll remember the 'Broony', the sunglasses, the smirks and the snarls.

Most of all the legendary captain will be remembered for his incredible 22 trophy haul, including a record-equalling Nine In A Row.

Still, there was a sort of cruel symmetry as Brown trudged off just before the hour mark in his final Old Firm game.

The 35-year-old's first taste of the Glasgow derby came in a 3-0 loss to Rangers in October 2007.

Not since then had Celtic lost by three to their arch rivals, but Brown watched on from the bench as Jermain Defoe's late goal made it 4-1.

It's not the game he'll be remembered for, and the numbers confirm it was one to forget for the veteran.

Brown was a peripheral figure throughout the 59 minutes he spent on the pitch, managing just 26 touches.

Of the starting XI only Callum McGregor had fewer with 24 and he was shown a red card after 24 minutes.

Brown's replacement, Ismaila Soro had 20 in his half hour on the pitch and every Rangers starter managed more - including Allan McGregor.

The Celtic captain completed 95 per cent of his passes but only attempted 21, the same number as team-mate McGregor.

Fellow starters James Forrest and Odsonne Edouard did have fewer - 15 and 12 respectively - but for a man used to controlling the engine room Brown will be disappointed with his return.

Of the Rangers starters only McGregor and Kemar Roofe had fewer.

Defensively Brown did manage two tackles and two interceptions, but he was dribbled past for Alfredo Morelos' goal.

Steven Gerrard deployed Ryan Kent centrally for Rangers, and though Celtic weren't helped by the dismissal of McGregor he managed an assist, five key passes and four completed dribbles.

That can't all be blamed on Brown, but the captain will not reflect fondly on his final match in those famous Hoops.
