Scott Brown's dark arts in Aberdeen winner fly under the radar as genius routine leaves Hearts bamboozled

He's rarely shy to be the centre of attention - as his knee-slide celebration at Ibrox on Wednesday will attest.

But Scott Brown is just as happy to do the dirty work that often goes unnoticed.

The Aberdeen skipper is a master of the dark arts and he's brought his win-at-all-costs mentality with him to help the Dons to seven points from a gruelling three-game run.

The former Celtic and Hibs midfielder has helped revitalise things under Stephen Glass after a difficult couple of months with a win over Hearts putting them back into the top half of the table.

Brown wasn't on the scoresheet this time - it was Lewis Ferguson who rose highest to head home from a corner.

But Brown's subtle role was almost as important to making the goal happen as the header that looped over Craig Gordon and into the net.

BBC Sportscene cameras captured a clever routine involving Brown and Ryan Hedges that allows Ferguson to pull away from his marker and get his effort on target.

After making a dummy run to create space for Ferguson to run into, Brown is seen turning round and pushing his own teammate into the path of Beni Baningime - who was tracking the eventual goalscorer.

It does enough to slow the former Everton man down, leaving Ferguson with a free header that eventually hits the back of the net.

Whether it was a choreographed routine or an instinctive moment of genius remains to be seen.

But Aberdeen and Stephen Glass won't care as it earned them three points for the second straight weekend.

Wins over Hearts and Hibs came either side of a draw with Rangers - a run of games that had Dons fans wincing after their defeat to Dundee earlier this month.
