Scott Brown raves about Celtic new boy and assesses competition for his own starting spot

Scott Brown has been raving about Celtic new boy David Turnbull, while assessing the stiff competition for starting places in the centre of the park.

The Parkhead skipper reckons the midfield options available to manager Neil Lennon are as good as they have been for a number of years.

Among those options is ex Motherwell star Turnbull, and Brown likes what he's seen from the player so far.

He said: "David's a great guy. I've sat and spoke to him quite a lot. Technically he's very good. He knows what Celtic it all about.

"It's a hard thing to come to a club like Celtic, and the demands that the put on you, but he knows what it's all about. He's relishing the challenge, to be honest.

"He's been great in training and here's hoping you get to see a lot more of him in games as well."

He added: "Competition is great in the middle of the park. That's probably the strongest [area] for competition there is, since I've been here.

"There are seven or eight midfielders who can play in three spots.

"It's always going to be hard but everyone's got to fight for their place. We need to make sure we're working hard in training and make sure everyone's injury free so we can last this whole campaign."

On the prospects of squad rotation and perhaps spending time out the side, Brown said: "I feel fine. It’s up to the manager.

“Sometimes he might think I need a rest, sometimes he might think somebody else needs a rest.

“Odsonne (Edouard) had a rest at the weekend there because he has played a lot of games and he was away with France.

“That’s up to the manager, he picks the team for that game depending on everyone’s form, how people are feeling, whether people have got little niggles as well.

“I have got great respect for the manager so, whoever he picks, we all stand by him.”
