Scott Brown 'let down' by Celtic team-mates insists Parkhead icon as captain backed to play on

Frank McAvennie insists Scott Brown has been let down by his team-mates this season as he warned "write that man off at your peril".

The Celtic captain has been criticised for his performances this season, with many fans feeling the veteran has been given an inordinate amount of game time for a 35-year-old.

But McAvennie insists that Brown's performance in the 1-0 win over Aberdeen proves that it's his team-mates who are letting him down amid questions over the veteran's future.

And the former Parkhead striker warned not to write the skipper with his contract expiring in the summer.

McAvennie told Football Insider: "You write that man off at your peril.

"Scott Brown was man of the match at the weekend. What you see is what you get. Whether people like or, or don’t like him, he was magnificent in there against Aberdeen.

“He must be so frustrated and let down with the players around him though.

“He will be 36 soon and he needs more legs in and around him. If the others are not doing it, there is only so much Scott can do.”
