Scott Brown in 'stay positive' message to Darnel Fisher after early retirement

Celtic hero Scott Brown has paid tribute to Darnel Fisher after the defender announced his retirement from football.

The 29-year-old came through the Parkhead youth ranks before going on to make over 20 appearances for the Hoops under the leadership of Neil Lennon and Ronny Deila.

Fisher also enjoyed a successful loan spell at St Johnstone where he made 23 games under Tommy Wright before he opted to move south to Rotherham.

He spent a season with United in the Championship before switching to Preston North End, for whom he would play 177 times.

And he confirmed his retirement on social media, citing a knee injury as being the reason for him hanging up his boots.

Brown wished Fisher all the best, writing: "All the best in the future my man. Stay positive."

Joe Ledley, Mikael Lustig, and Scott Sinclair also left comments on the post.

Meanwhile, ex-Celtic goalkeeper Packie Bonner has praised Brendan Rodgers for how he has developed Matt O'Riley's game.

The midfielder has started every game so far this season for the Scottish champions, scoring six times and providing three assists.

And Bonner feels Rodgers has taken the Dane's game to the next level.

He told BBC: “[Rodgers] maybe changed slightly the position of him and in relation to what he was doing under Ange [Postecoglou].

"He was playing very, very high and staying high and now he is asked to go a little bit deeper at times but he is still making those runs into the box and the timing of those runs is magnificent.”
