Scott Brown Celtic insider transfer verdict as he details where club will strengthen

Scott Brown believes Brendan Rodgers should be looking to add some firepower to his attack in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Hoops are of course boosted with the talented Kyogo Furuhashi at the top end of the pitch, but in terms of depth in attack, they appear to be struggling.

Celtic are yet to really fill the void of Giorgos Giakoumakis after the Greek forward moved to MLS side Atlanta back in February, with new signing Oh Hyeon-gyu failing to really hit the heights of the potential he showed under Ange Postecoglou.

Former Parkhead skipper Brown now feels it is time for investment into the front line and he reckons deals will be done in January. He told luckyblock.com: “I think Brendan will be looking to sign another striker in January.

“Kyogo Furuhashi has been on fire this season, but they’re perhaps missing a spark up there with him.

I’m sure Brendan will want to strengthen every position if he can, so it all depends on how much money he’s going to get to spend. I’m sure they’ll do it wisely and within their budget.

“Brendan brings a sense of ruthlessness and relentlessness to clubs – you saw when he was here beforehand, we won four Trebles in a row and a lot of that was due to the manager and the players he brought in.

"You’ve got to give him credit for the players he’s brought in and the amount of money that he’s made Celtic in the past – that’s what fantastic managers do.

“It’s that structure with and without the ball that is hugely important to Brendan and the club, and they’ve got that drilled very well. They look a really strong team, but they probably need to sign a couple of players in January as well. I’m sure that’s one thing Brendan will be having his eye on.”

Brown is also confident that  Celtic boss Rodgers can deliver the Scottish Premiership title and he believes the former Liverpool and Leicester man will be craving success in his first season back in Scotland.

He continued: “Celtic always need to make sure that they’re going to go on and win the Scottish Premiership – it’s what the fans expect from them.

“Brendan will certainly want to win another title too in his first season back, it would be a great season for him if he manages to do that.

"They will be taking it one game at a time and making sure they don’t get too carried away with themselves, but at the same time they need to know that the end goal is going on to win the league and have those bragging rights over their rivals.

“He's very diverse with his tactics. That’s one of the best things about having a top-quality manager – he can change the shape, tactics and personnel, but he’s got the same drive and understanding of how they want to press and win games throughout a long season.”

Reflecting on his time at the club, Brown revealed that he still maintains an active dialogue with the current players and staff at Celtic Park.

When asked whether he would consider a coaching or managerial role at his former club, Brown added: “You never know! I loved my time there, I still go back now and then, and I still keep in touch with some of the lads and the staff.

"I can’t ever say a bad word about the club – I had 14 fantastic seasons there and I’ve got a lot of respect for the fans, and there are also a lot of people who work behind the scenes for the club too.

“People sometimes don’t understand how the club brings everyone together. There’s a lot of fantastic people at the club and it’s a place that I cherish, and I have a lot of fond memories there, so I wouldn’t rule out a return.”
