Scott Brown and Neil Lennon lead Billy McNeill Celtic tributes as they lay wreath to remember Cesar

Celtic's first team stars paid a touching tribute to Billy McNeill before their game against Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Manger Neil Lennon and club captain Scott Brown led the players as they laid a wreath in remembrance of the Lisbon Lions icon.

The rain had been bucketing down in Glasgow but the sun came out as players paid their respects to the man who both captained and managed the team he loved.

Lennon spoke during the week about McNeill's incredible impact and the legacy he created during his time associated with Celtic .

McNeill's statue of him holding the European Cup aloft has become a shrine in recent days as the public have paid their respects.

The touching moment was made even more special as hundreds of supporters cheered the first team as they walked up the Celtic Way ahead of kick-off.

The wreath laying ceremony is the first part of a day of tributes as Celtic celebrate the life of one of Scottish football's most cherished figures.

McNeill's wife Liz and the rest of the family hugged Lennon and Brown after their gesture and Peter Lawwell and Ian Bankier also paid their respects.

The players will don black armbands and supporters group the Green Brigade will unveil a special banner before kick-off in the Premiership clash.
