Scott Bain maintains Celtic 'steamroller' confidence as keeper highlights title race key period

Scott Bain believes Celtic can still cobble together a season-defining run to revive their 10 In A Row bid despite dropping more points at Hibs this weekend.

The gap between Bain's Hoops and league leaders Rangers widened to 11 points on Sunday, after the Govan club surged further in front by defeating Aberdeen 4-0 at Ibrox.

Bain saved a penalty one day earlier from Hibs' Kevin Nisbet but Light Blues loanee Jamie Murphy dispatched the rebound.

Nisbet then fired past him to double the Hibees' advantage but Odsonne Edouard converted a penalty up the other end, which was followed by a Diego Laxalt leveller.

It stopped the slide extending to four defeats in eight matches and the goalkeeper - preferred to summer arrival Vasilis Barkas for now - reckons his side is still capable of overturning the deficit.

"We have always shown it before," he said. "You have seen at the turn of the year the last three or four years, how we have really steamrollered teams from then on.

"There's a lot of games to be played, December is a really busy month, so we need the full squad to be together for that.

"Until you get to December, you want to be there or thereabouts, but you know in the months towards the end of the season when it really matters, you have seen this squad really pushes on and goes from strength to strength.

"Obviously we want to get that quicker in these couple of months but there's a lot of games to be played."

The defence playing in front of Bain has been shaky in recent weeks, with Jeremie Frimpong and Nir Bitton at fault when Jack Ross' side surged two goals ahead at the weekend.

Bain added: "We seem to be making mistakes and being punished for it, that's the way it is going right now. But it's a case of digging ourselves out of it and pushing on.

"I don't think we are too far off. We probably should have been way ahead before they scored."
