Scott Arfield says Rangers players sensed Steven Gerrard's departure was coming as he heaps praise on Gio van Bronckhorst

Scott Arfield insists Rangers are reaping the benefits of changing manager.

The midfielder has credited Giovanni van Bronckhorst of providing a bounce around Ibrox after replacing Steven Gerrard.

The Gers have won all their league games since losing the Premier Sports Cup semi-final to Hibs, and drew away to Lyon in the Europa League.

Arfield is happy with how things are going under the Dutchman ahead of their trip to face Hearts tomorrow.

“It looks a wee bit more fluid, a wee bit more positive," he said.

“I think that comes with the freshness and ideas of the new manager — it’s a new voice.

“You see that all around the world when you get that bounce from a new manager.

“We are certainly benefiting from it at the minute and it looks a bit more fluid for us, that’s for sure.

“It’s replicated in performances, how much we are enjoying his new reign.

“Not that much has changed — he has kept it the same, tweaking things here and there.

“But due to the high volume of games we’ve got, we can’t do much on the training pitch with a 25-man squad because of the players in recovery.

“So team meetings have probably been our training, trying to get recovered and really taking on what he is all about.”

On Gerrard's exit, Arfield insists the squad could sense he needed a new challenge.

But there's no hard feelings, the Canadian understands the need his old boss felt to move to Aston Villa in the Premier League.

“Personally I think that was coming anyway," he added. "When you play at a club like this, people love to talk.

“So whether you are playing well and grinding out results, whether you’re not getting results and playing well, people love to talk about it.

“Everything gets more scrutinised and rightly so. So it was probably coming.

“The manager wanted a new challenge and you can see that comparison down there where Aston Villa couldn’t really buy a win for the first five months of the season but have now won three out of four.

“So they are certainly benefiting from that freshness after a great manager like Dean Smith left the club and our previous gaffer went in there.

“We’ve got the same bounce up here so that freshness and ideas happens everywhere — particularly in European football.

“You get that freshness and a different voice and it takes you on to the next level.”
