John Hughes has revealed he received a 'thank you' text from Scott Arfield in the wake of Ross County's dramatic win over Celtic.
Hughes' Staggies shocked the faltering Premiership champions on Sunday to put Rangers within seven points of taking the title from their rivals.
Jordan White's second-half header condemned Neil Lennon to another miserable defeat and gave County's survival push a major shot in the arm.
And Rangers midfielder Arfield, who worked under Hughes at Falkirk, was among the first to reach out after the shock result.
Asked how happy he'd be for his former charge if Rangers clinched the title, Hughes told Go Radio: "He text me last night: 'Thanks gaffer, thanks for the help out.'
"So, absolutely delighted (for him)."
Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson is a regular guest on the station's nightly football show and admitted even he considered dropping Hughes a line.
He quipped: "I was going to thank you as well, Yogi!"
