With the Premiership trophy now secured, Herdman admits Arfield felt that he had to bring some silverware back to the club after a barren decade.

When asked by Sky Sports if he had spoken to the 32-year-old since being crowned champions, Herdman said: "We've been messaging back and forth. It's a proud moment for Scott.

"I know how much that meant to him. He was desperate to deliver something for those fans.

"He felt the weight of moving to that club. He was a big signing for Rangers two years ago so he's felt that weight and now he's delivered. "
