Scott Arfield picks favourite Rangers goal and sets Fashion Sakala challenge for salute celebration

Scott Arfield has revealed his favourite Rangers goal that 'nobody talks about' as he issued Fashion Sakala a challenge before he can take over his iconic salute celebration.

The veteran Light Blues star has waved goodbye to his time at Ibrox following the expiry of his contract. Boss Michael Beale has openly admitted it was one of his harder decisions but the final outcome is what is best for both the player and the club going forward. The 34-year-old has provided memorable moments over the years like his strikes against Villarreal and Celtic, THAT injury-time double against Aberdeen and of course his Champions League goal against Liverpool - despite the end result.

But it is a goal that doesn't make the headlines like the others that he will always fondly remember as he explained his reasons behind that decision. He told Rangers TV: “I could rhyme off 10 here. One of my favourite goals is one nobody talks about in Midtjylland.

“I touched it and passed it through his legs. I love goals like that, I think they’re the best because it’s just a big daft defender opening his legs and you put it through them.

“I love goals like that. I loved that goal. The Villarreal one was amazing, my first goal for Rangers. The one against Celtic.

“And I know we got absolutely battered in the end in the 7-1 game against Liverpool but when I was 10 year old going to my dads, the Champions League in the 90s was the biggest thing so to be able to say you scored in that competition is incredible and nobody can take it away from me.

“This has been the best five years of my career, I’ve absolutely loved it and I just hope I’m back here in this building at some point in the future.”

Arfield joined Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Allan McGregor and Filip Helander in getting a big ovation from the Ibrox crowd in the last home game of the season against Hearts.

He climbed off the bench for that one but team-mate Fashion Sakala netted early in the second half and adopted Arfield's famous celebration. The 34-year-old has explained the back story and has warned he can only have it for keeps if the Zambian tops his goal tally.

He continued: "The story isn't that exciting, I made it up to be exciting and it doesn't even make sense to be fair!

"But it's iconic, isn't it, when I walk around and see wee boys and girls doing the salute, it's an amazing feeling. My wee girls love it and Fashion Sakala really loved it as well.

"He says he's going to take it and carry it on with Rangers but I don't think that is true! He needs to score more goals and if he scores more goals than me, he can keep it!"
