Scott Allan wanted for Dundee transfer return as James McPake looks to exploit old pals' act for Hibs playmaker

Dundee are keen to bring Hibs playmaker Scott Allan back to Dens Park.

The Dark Blues are looking for a creative midfielder in the January transfer window and will attempt to get the 30-year-old out of Easter Road.

Allan spent six months on loan with the Taysiders in 2017, where he was a team-mate of current Dundee gaffer James McPake.

He’ll be in Hibs’ squad for their Premiership return against Celtic at Parkhead on Monday night.

And he started Shaun Maloney’s first game in charge of the Hibees against Aberdeen in December.

But MailSport understands Dundee will make a move for Allan this month in a bid to bolster their ranks for the second half of the season.

McPake has been frustrated so far in the window after losing out to Kilmarnock for centre-back Ash Taylor and failing to get striker Sam Cosgrove from Birmingham.

So far the Dark Blues manager has added Canadian international Jay Chapman from Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.

He’s lost centre-back Lee Ashcroft and frontman Cillian Sheridan to long-term injury, while there has also been interest in striker Jason Cummings who could leave.
