Scott Allan pinpoints Celtic downfall as Hibs star recalls incredible Neil Lennon outburst

Hibs star Scott Allan has opened up about his time at Celtic and reckons part of the reason it never worked out was because Brendan Rodgers played the creative playmaker out of position.

The midfielder joined the Parkhead side in 2015, but was shipped out on loan to Rotherham for the 2016/17 season despite insisting he had impressed Rodgers in pre-season following the new boss' arrival.

Allan then had loan spells at Dundee and Hibs before eventually returning to Easter Road as a free agent this summer.

When asked what went wrong at Celtic , he told PLZ Soccer : "From early on in pre-season I had a good impact on Brendan Rodgers because he took me into his office many times.

"He said 'I want you to stay here, you're part of the plans'. I think he said to the press a few times about me not going out on loan.

"After one pre-season game he wanted me to play in front of the back four so he seen me there as opposed to behind the striker or further forward in the midfield.

"I knew myself that wasn't my best position.

"(I like to play) in a midfield three either as the number eight or behind the striker."

Allan is delighted to be back at Hibs and enjoying his football once again. He knew a return to Leith was the right decision after a successful loan spell there from Celtic when Neil Lennon was in charge.

The former Dundee United says he has nothing but respect for the Northern Irishman and says he loved ever minute of his passionate management style.

One of Lennon's famous outbursts was when he threatened to quit Hibs after his side lost to rivals Hearts towards the end of the season, despite securing a top-four finish in 2017/18.

The 27-year-old says admitted he couldn't take him seriously after they had just enjoyed a 14-game unbeaten run, with all the Hibs squad bursting into laughter when he made the surprise announcement.

He added: "I couldn't say a bad word about Lenny.

"I loved every minute of it, I even loved when he used to go off his head to be honest with you.

"He wore his heart on his sleeve and the next day it would be fine as long as you went out and done the job for him. He made you feel really confident before you went out and played a game of football and I think for some players, that's a big thing.

"There would always be something that he would go off his head about.

"After the Hearts game I think we had went 14 games unbeaten and then lost to Hearts at Tynecastle.

"I don't really want to go into it too much, some of it was mental.

"I think he came out in fact and said: 'I'm leaving, I'm leaving, I've had enough.'

"We had went 14 games unbeaten at Hibs and ended up getting the highest finish I'm sure.

"But the boys just started laughing because you're thinking surely not after the run we had went on. I've got a lot of respect for him and I enjoyed working with him."
