Scott Allan is an example to every young player watching football: Dick Campbell

Dick Campbell has hailed Scott Allan as an example to every young player who watched the game.

The Hibs midfielder set up the first and scored the second from the penalty spot as Paul Heckingbttom’s men recorded a 3-0 win over Arbroath at Easter Road to go top of Betfred Cup Group C.

Allan had a brief spell on loan at Forfar from first club Dundee United under Campbell in 2010 and the pair have remained close since then.

They were deep in conversation on the pitch following the final whistle last night, and Campbell revealed that Allan was disappointed his side only managed three goals after speaking about the midfielder in glowing terms.

“Scotty’s a really close friend of mine and I thought he was outstanding and an example to every single young player watching the game of football in terms of his retention of the ball,” he said.

“But he’s seemingly disappointed with 3-0. Probably on reflection and the amount of possession that they had, it’s a true reflection of the game because we never had a shot. In 90 minutes. Which is disappointing.”

Campbell does believes it’s unfair on smaller and part-time club’s that they are required to play only signed players in the group stages of the Betfred Cup.

“I’ve said I’d use these games to get us ready for the league but I think that’s a wee but disrespectful to the League Cup,” he admitted.

“But that’s what everybody’s doing. They’ve asked us to play signed players. The Hibs of this this world, the Hearts and Rangers and Celtics, when we play them they’ve got 30 players to play. I’m trying to get 18 fit.

“But I’ve no complaints.”
