Scotstoun dogwalker attacked with a knife by neighbour in the street

A thug who attacked a neighbour with a knife as he walked his dog has been jailed for 22 months.

Robert Lamont, 48, was demanding to get into a flat when David Mowatt tried to calm him down.

Lamont had earlier been kicked out of the property in Glasgow's Scotstoun by his partner and her son.

Prosecutor Clara Smeaton told Glasgow Sheriff Court that the thug suddenly  "swung out" at Mr Mowatt with a blade catching on the neck.

Mr Mowatt luckily escaped any serious injury.

The hearing was told Lamont then apologised for what he had done.

Lamont yesterday pled guilty to assault.

His lawyer Gerry O'Donnell said Lamont had been assaulted himself before being kicked out the flat.

Sheriff Paul Crozier told Lamont: “This is very serious indeed and this is a really nasty knife.

"This is a silver lock back knife that still has blood on it.

"You used that knife to injure an individual who was simply trying to help you."
