Scots Zoo shares adorable images of 'world's oldest' Lemur enjoying his 35th birthday with a cake

A Scots Zoo has shared the adorable moment their resident ring-tailed Lemur, who is thought to be the oldest in the world, enjoyed his 35th birthday.

Stumpy was given a delicious-looking cake by staff The Five Sisters Zoo in West Calder to mark the occasion - and looked suitably delighted.

The team pampered him with gifts and treats before posting photos of the birthday boy on their Facebook page.

The still spritely Lemur, who has defied the odds as the ring-tailed species usually only live till around the age of 25 in captivity and their late teens in the wild, was then spotted gleefully tucking into a slice or two.

His keepers say that at 35, he is a real character, and apart from a little arthritis (for which he gets a daily dose of medicine in his favourite treat - banana), he is still really active and is a favourite with everyone.

Fans of Stumpy were delighted to see him celebrating and flocked to the page to wish him a happy birthday.

One person wrote: "Happy birthday stumpy you are an inspiration!"

While another added: "Amazing, he's definitely going for the record!"
