A Scots youth has been charged by police after allegedly firing a BB gun at passengers onboard a public bus.
Officers were called on Tuesday, March 30, over reports of a male in possession of a toy firearm in the Musselburgh and Prestonpans areas of East Lothian.
A joint probe was launched with Lothian Buses and the local authority in a bid to identify the person responsible.
Police Scotland have now confirmed that a youth has been charged with culpable and reckless conduct and assault following the incident.
A report will be submitted to the Youth Justice Officer.
A force spokesperson said: “During the course of the evening of 30th March 2021 police received a number of calls in relation to the discharge of a toy BB gun in Musselburgh and Prestonpans.
“A youth who was in possession of the BB gun produced this on a bus and was observed firing it at members of the public.
“Local Response and Community Officers have worked jointly with Lothian Buses and East Lothian Council to progress enquiries into this matter and this has led to the identification of the teenage male responsible.
“The BB gun has been recovered and the male charged with Culpable and Reckless conduct, together with an assault.
“A report will be submitted to the Youth Justice Officer.
“Police in East Lothian will continue to work with partners to reduce anti-social behaviour and would like to thank members of the public for their assistance in this matter.”
