Scots youngster pens hand-written apology letter after "double dare" hoax call to police

A shame-faced Scots youngster who prank called police as part of a “double dare” has apologised to the force.

The 10-year-old, known as Miss Mackenzie, admitted she had dialled 999 on April 25 after being egged on by a friend.

The primary school pupil has issued a heartfelt apology to officers in the Tayside division and promised never to do it again.

Dundee Police tweeted a picture of the adorable confession letter and said: “A young lady called Mackenzie wrote a letter to officers in Dundee, apologising for falsely dialling 999 a few days before.

“Hoax calls are a serious matter, and fortunately no resources were diverted to deal with her call.

"Thank you for your honesty and your apology, Mackenzie.”

The hand-written note detailed how Mackenzie’s parents had ensured she knew how serious her actions could have been.

She also promised to tell her friend that a “double dare” was not a good reason to call 999.

Mackenzie wrote: “I am incredibly sorry for dialling 999 on the 25th of April.

"I understand I took people away from answering real 999 calls.

“I know that I should never call 999 unless it is a real emergency, no matter what other people said to me.

“I know that a ‘double dare’ is no reason to call 999."

She added: "I promise that I will never do it again and will make sure my friend know not to.

“My mum and dad have made sure that I know how serious my choices could have been that day and the impact on all the emergency services.

“I can never say sorry enough and am very grateful for all the hard working emergency services in this country. Yours sincerely Mackenzie age 10.”
