Scots wrestler 'used metal bin lid to shield himself from machete attack'

A Scots wrestler feared for his life during a machete attack bid on him, a court has heard.

Achille Mkoh claimed he used a bin lid to shield himself from repeated blows by Marc Smith, 30, in May this year.

The 29-year-old also alleged Smith tried to run him over outside his house in Glasgow ’s Barmulloch area before he fled the scene.

Smith is on trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court charged with two racially aggravated assaults and possession of a machete.

The court heard the alleged victim is a wrestler for Scottish promotion ICW under the name Lil Scoop who featured in a BBC Scotland documentary in April.

Achille told the court he was on an exercise bike in his front garden watching his daughter playing when the incident took place.

He said: “I saw a brand new Audi parked next to the front of my garden.

“He was wearing Gucci shoes and a fluffy jacket and was carrying an 18-inch machete behind his back.”

He added that he saw the man he identified as Smith going to a nearby house and speak to another man.

Achille went to investigate and “speak” to Smith who kept the machete behind his back.

“I asked if he was okay and he didn’t answer and asked what he was doing here", he added.

“He said things I couldn’t understand and the other guy wasn’t hurt.

“The guy came towards me with the machete and swung it at my chest and face.”

Achille claimed he used a metal bin lid to defend himself but tripped onto the ground.

He added: “He came straight for my face and I put my shield to my face and he started banging.

“I thought I was going to die, he wanted to kill me but I didn’t know why.”

He said his friend Landry Djagtem raced out his house and pushed Smith away. Smith then ran to his car, he claimed.

The wrestler said: “I thought he was running away and then he reversed his car quickly at me. I jumped backwards.”

Prosecutor Mark Allan asked what would have happened if he didn’t jump, to which Achille replied: “he would have crashed into me.”

The wrestler claims the incident has “traumatised” him and felt he had to move house.

He said: “Everyday I still think about it, I still think about what if it went wrong.

“I still see this guy’s face since that day.”

Smith denies the charges and the trial continues before Sheriff Sean Murphy QC.
